Dragon Soop Riding A New Wave with The Ronains

the-ronains.jpeg

Okay, 2020 has sucked so far and, bar the discovery of a new way to test your eyesight at your local castle (and SOOPFEST 2020, naturally), there’s not been much to shout about.

Until now.

After their barnstorming set at SOOPFEST 2020, Dragon Soop is excited to announce our sponsorship of one of Scotland’s finest bands, The Ronains. New wavers The Ronains’ live performances have a swagger which has seen them supporting some of the biggest names in the business, including:

  • Jake Bugg

  • Scouting for Girls

  • The Hoosiers

  • Gerry Cinnamon

They’ve also rocked up at ‘Party in The Palace’ alongside Razorlight, Amy MacDonald and Dodgy, played the world-famous Cavern Club in Liverpool and the O2 ABC in Glasgow. Played back-to-back sold-out shows at the prestigious Hard Rock Cafe and toured the USA.

Not bad!

Meet the Band

Hailing from Clydebank, The Ronains are made up of four members:

  • Debi - Lead Vocals

  • Jim (Jay Are) - Bass

  • LP - Guitar

  • Linzi - Beats

But that’s not doing them justice, so here’s a load more about them:

Debi Ronain

Growing up in a household filled with Motown, Elvis and The Beatles, lead vocalist Debi was addicted to music from an early age and, as a teenager, it was all about Oasis and the Manchester music scene. But with such a powerhouse voice, she got her kicks singing hits by Aretha Franklin, Madonna, Pink and Lady Gaga, which she believes made her into a ballsy, zero-bullshit, kick-ass woman she is today. She’s driven, energetic and a whole heap of fun to be around. On signing the sponsorship with Dragon Soop, Debi said:

“Literally couldn’t be sponsored by a better brand. Dragon Soop has that no-nonsense swagger we love. And it packs one helluva punch!”

Jim Reid (Jay Are)

Jim started writing songs when he was fourteen about those famous street characters we all grew up with: The tough guy. The ladies’ man. And gangs with no chance in life.

Songs which were brought to life on the bands’ 2019 debut album ‘Love, Drugs & On the Dole’.

With a huge variety of musical influences passed down through his family, including pop, rap and disco - and inspired by artists like The Doors, Oasis, Reverend and The Makers, Madonna, Don McLean, Oasis and Bruce Springsteen - it’s easy to see where Jay gets his love of writing rebellious lyrics. Oh, and he’s a bad-ass bassist too! On signing the sponsorship with Dragon Soop, Jim said said:

“To be sponsored by the drink I love is overwhelming. Dragon Soop is a massive brand. I’m so grateful they’ve put their famous name to The Ronains - it’s made all the hard work worth it”

LP

Inspired by the classic rock sounds of Alice Cooper & Led Zeppelin, Lyndsey picked up her first guitar at age fourteen - and has barely put one down since.

She honed her skills at music college and found a love for Blues players like Eric Clapton and Gary Moore. Before spending time as a technician for legendary guitarist Zal Cleminson, where she gained a new appreciation for performance and knowledge of the instrument.

On signing the sponsorship with Dragon Soop, LP said:

“To be sponsored by drinks giant Dragon Soop is a real privilege. Definitely looking forward to fueling many post-gig parties with our favourite flavours!”

Linzi Ronain

As a teenager, she played both guitar and drums before studying for a music degree.

Now?

Well, not only is she in a rockin’ band, but she also runs her own business, Miller School of Music, teaching drums, guitar and bass to aspiring musicians.

Linzi’s music taste is wildly eclectic, with everything from rock, pop, punk, dance, RnB and hip hop to ska, reggae, blues, funk and soul, and lists drummers Adrian Young, Keith Moon, John Bonham and Steve Gadd as her inspiration for picking up the sticks!

On signing the sponsorship with Dragon Soop, Linzi said:

“It’s an absolute honour to be sponsored by my favourite drink! Just call me Linzi the dragon slayer!”

The Soop Family Just Got Bigger

And it’s not only the band who are excited about teaming up with Dragon Soop - we’re Sooper-psyched too. So much so, Isabelle Kent, Sales and Marketing Director of Corinthian Brands and Dragon Soop, had this to say:

“The Ronains blew us away at SOOPFEST 2020. It’s hard to find bands with, not only a bit of attitude and swagger like Liam Gallagher, but the talent to back it up - and these guys have it in spades!

They’re not afraid to wear their heart on their sleeve and say what they mean - which is what we love about them.

We welcome them to the Soop family!”
